    Mari* is Worldwide FM’s Senior Producer and Gilles Peterson’s longtime radio collaborator, and every month presents a two hour show called ‘Oto Nova Japan’ introducing a new wave of artists and music coming out of Japan. For this month’s show, Mari* presents new music and a guest mix comes from Japanese artist and composer Noah. The mix includes variety of inspirational songs of her latest album ‘Thirty’. ‘Thirty’ is out on flau music was our album of the week, you can read more here. Mari* is also joined by Mark de Clive-Lowe as he wraps up his prolific year 2019 with his double albums “Heritage I+II”, Rōnin Arkestra, CHURCH Sessions, the GAMM remixes, Dwight Trible’s album, Lady Alma’s album.

    Mari* is Worldwide FM’s Senior Producer and Gilles Peterson’s longtime radio collaborator, and every month presents a two hour show called ‘Oto Nova Japan’ introducing a new wave of artists and music coming out of Japan. On this edition, Mari* is joined by London based producer and DJ Koichi Sakai, who is well-known in London music circles and co-founder of the legendary Afro-beat Vibration nights alongside Dele Sosimi. The show explores his new release and collaboration with Ghanaian percussionist and singer Afla Sackey (Afrik Bawantu), where Koichi mixed African percussion instruments and themes with synths and drum machines. Mari is curious to chat about how he has established his role in the music scene after moving from Japan.   Koichi Sakai  Koichi Sakai is a Tokyo born, London based DJ, producer and musician who is widely recognised for his highly developed, unique style which reflects the varied influences that have continuously informed his creativity and career. His musical style is soulful, jazzy and percussive; playing a distinctive and smooth mix of soul, jazz, funk, reggae, Latin, afrobeat and deep house. Sakai has been the resident DJ for Afrobeat Vibration with the former Fela Kuti’s Egypt 80 keyboardist Dele Sosimi since November 2008 and has a project called Afrobuddha with Kay Suzuki, DJ/Producer and co-founder of reissue label Time Capsule.

Go Kurosawa (drums/vocals) and Tomo Katsurada (guitar/vocals) , the founding members of the band, to share some of their inspiration and chat about their musical journey.

    Mari* is Worldwide FM’s Senior Producer and Gilles Peterson’s longtime radio collaborator, and every month presents a two hour show called ‘Oto Nova Japan’ introducing a new wave of artists and music coming out of Japan. On this summer edition, Mari* brings Japanese carnival “Matsuri” inspired sounds to Worldwide FM. Furthermore, the show explores sounds of “Chindon”, the traditional Japanese street music performance. Maïa Barouh, SSW and Flautist, joins for the Chiindon feature and shares her experience performing as Chindon musician and her knowledge and passion about this special kind of music.

    Mari* is Worldwide FM’s Senior Producer and Gilles Peterson’s longtime radio collaborator, and every month presents a two hour show called ‘Oto Nova Japan’ introducing a new wave of artists and music coming out of Japan. Mari is joined by Rie Nakajima, a Japanese artist working with installations and performances that produce sound. Her works are most often composed in direct response to unique architectural spaces using a combination of kinetic devices and found objects. Rie performs live in the studio and chat about her unique work ahead of her Cafe Oto show on June 10th (Monday).

Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy unfolds a different sound across four shows, with expert guests dropping in for interviews, live sessions and DJ sets. Show 2 shines a spotlight on experimental music with Akiko Kiyama, Bo Ningen, Mari* and Maia Barouh and Toshio Matsuura. This episode is a Post-Piano Day special celebrating Piano Day, an annual worldwide event founded by a group of likeminded people, it takes place on the 88th day of the year – in 2019 it’s the 29th March – because of the number of keys on the instrument being celebrated. Mari* brings piano pieces by Japanese musicians and is joined by Midori Hirano, a Berlin-based musician, composer and producer.

    Mari* is Worldwide FM’s Senior Producer and Gilles Peterson’s longtime radio collaborator, and every month presents a two hour show called ‘Oto Nova Japan’ introducing a new wave of artists and music coming out of Japan. This episode features Jazzy Sport, to celebrate the new collaboration on Worldwide FM of the launch of the Jazzy Sport T-Shirt. Jazzy Sport is an Independent Record label + Shop based in Tokyo Japan, that is home to Mitsu the Beats, Gagle, Cro-Magnon, Grooveman Spot, Budamunk, Sick Team, and more. Mari* will play some of the releases from Jazzy Sport and the show will feature an exclusive mix by DJ Mitsu the Beats. ‘A new Worldwide FM tee collaboration with our Japanese friends Jazzy Sport. 10% of Worldwide FM and Jazzy Sport profits go to an organisation called “change the world“, providing supplies to Japanese earthquake victims, sending rice and necessities from Kumamoto to children at Yotsuba Kindergarden in Minamisōma, Fukushima.’

In this episode Mari is joined by Haruomi Hosono, one of the members of legendary Yellow Magic Orchestra (YMO) and a major architect of modern Japanese pop music. The feature particularly focuses on Hosono’s Omni Sight Seeing album, originally released in 1989 and is one of the re-issues of his key albums via Light in the Attic for the first time outside of Japan. Hosono takes us back to his musician musical adventures around the world.

Ken and Mari discuss the philosophy behind his music based on his latest album UkabazUmorezU via RVNG Intl. and some of the inspirational music chosen by Ken. Mari* also plays a mini mix in anticipation for Worldwide Festival Sete, under the theme of the festival’s Japan Day on July 4th.
