Poem of the Month:
General Rubbish (writing R. Gallagher) – “MALA”

As part of our Spoken Word Special, General Rubbish hosted a special show exploring ‘the fourth world’, in which he read poems about sound and dance.
We also had Roger Robinson host a spoken world special; he spoke to Terrence Hayes, acclaimed poet and poetry editor of The New York Times, about his love of music, lyrics, poetry and the influence of music in his work.

Track of the Month
Soundspecies & Ache Meyi – Alina’s Calypso [Manana Records] // UK

As part of WW Santiago on International Day on the last Wednesday of June, Soundspecies dropped by to explore their new album out on the 30th of June. The album documents the collaboration between the UK’s Soundspecies and Santiago’s Ache Meyi in the weeks leading up to Manana festival 2016.

The show also featured a showcase from the founders of Manana, a festival and label based in Santiago, Cuba, and a live session from label affiliates Ariwo who brought some Afro-Cuban percussion and electronics to the studio.

Album of the Month
Binker & Moses – [Gilles’ Pick] [Gearbox Records] // UK
June was also the month that saw Saxophonist Binker Golding and young UK jazz drummer Moses Boyd release their album, Journey to the Mountain of Forever. The duo celebrated a release with a party of the soon to be closed Total Refreshment Centre.

Moses has joined our “Drummer’s inc” show a few times
