Peter Zummo, “Frame Loop” [Foom, 2018]
A previously lost studio session by American trombonist and composer, Peter Zummo, has been rediscovered and released for the first time, courtesy of Foom. Recorded in single takes in 1984 as part of Zummo’s Six Songs Suite, Zummo describes the record as “an exercise in spontaneous arrangement”.
The record features longtime collaborator Arthur Rusell on amplified cello, moving between solos and rhythm playing. Bill Ruyle is on marimba, Mustafa Ahmed on improvised percussion and Peter Zummo on trombone and euphonium.
In 2017, Peter Zummo also collaborated with London based drummer Tom Skinner (Owiny Sigoma Band, Sons Of Kemet) on his second Hello Skinny album, Watermelon Sun. For more from Tom Skinner, check out his show Drummers Inc. on Worldwide FM.
At Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide Awards 2018, Peter Zummo received the Lifetime Achievement Award. He also performed Arthur Russell’s classic Go Bang! with the Brownswood signed Hello Skinny.
