“VIAJANDO COM O SOM (THE LOST ’76 VICE-VERSA STUDIO SESSION)” by HERMETO PASCOAL & GRUPO VICE VERSA [FAR OUT RECORDINGS] (2017)
Every morning on Worldwide FM, we play a track from our album of the week. Our pick this week is Viajando Com O Som (The Lost 76 Vice-Versa Studio Session) by legendary Brazilian composer, Hermeto Pascoal.
This recording represents a forgotten moment in the Golden Age of Brazilian music. While the master recording is assumed to have been lost over time, pianist Lelo Nazario kept his copy in his studio’s archives, where it stayed for over forty years. Now, thanks to Far Out Recordings, it’s been unearthed and released for the first time.
Led by the visionary Hermeto Pascoal, this extraordinary album features his go-to rhythm section, with whom he felt inspired to record after a live show which had lasted for hours, with no breaks in playing. What’s more, almost everything you’ll hear was recorded in the first take and is the outcome of just two days of recording.
Back in January 2017 we were lucky enough to have Far Out Recordings founder Joe Davis bring us two hours of his extensive knowledge of Brazilian music and jazz, funk, and soul at large. Check it out here.
