Gilles Peterson presents a show based on his iconic Brownswood Basement.
This episode Gilles Peterson is live from cult London venue Total Refreshment Centre for a two hour showcase of local jazz talent. Gilles is joined by tubist and jazz composer Theon Cross and singer songwriter Connie Constance for definitive live performances, as well as multi-instrumentalist Nabihah Iqbal for an interview.

Theon Cross is a London based tuba player and jazz composer in the London’s thriving scene. The tubist has a unique swaggering and squelching timbre to his techniques, leading him to collaborate with musicians such as Moses Boyd, Jon Batists and Kano. The Londoner has also been nominated for Best Instrumentalist of the Year by the Jazz FM Awards for his debut release Aspirations in 2015.
Watford born, London based Connie Constance is an innovative singer songwriter who delves into the poetical influences of lyricism. With a husky jazz influenced vocal sound and her recent Boring Connie EP, Connie Constance is the freshest young talent signed to AMF Records.
Originally known as Throwing Shade, Nabihah Iqbal has been building her musical reputation since 2013, with her first release on Kassem Mosse’s Ominira imprint and her bi-weekly show on NTS Radio. Set to release her debut full-length album Weighing of the Heart on Ninja Tune, Nabihah has recently been focusing on live instrumentation and charting the waters where dance music and pop meet.
