Gil Scott-Heron Special: Dave Okumu with Lemn Sissay & Jono McCleery // 30-03-17

First broadcast date: 30 March 2017

Two days before what would have been his 68th birthday, we celebrate the life and legacy of jazz musician and spoken word artist Gil Scott-Heron. The two hour special live from London is fronted by Dave Okumu, bandleader of Mercury-nominated The Invisible and musical director of Pieces of a Man: The Gil-Scott Heron Project last year.

Dave will be joined by poet Lemn Sissay MBE and vocalist Jono McCleery as they explore Gil Scott-Heron’s work and pay tribute through music, live performance and words, including a live performance from Jono McCleery.
