First broadcast date: 30 October 2018
Monthly show from Kate Hutchinson, Guardian music and culture journalist, broadcaster and DJ from London. She is also the former Clubbing Editor at Time Out and is still waiting impatiently for the fidget-house revival.
Kate is back after a month travelling around Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Zanzibar and Malawi, from Nyege Nyege Festival to Lake Of Stars.
For this special show, she’s invited along some of the brilliant artists and curators she met along the way, including future dancehall producer The Busy Twist, broadcaster and DJ Emily Dust, who talks about her new gqom documentary, Afro-inspired remix label and club night Beating Heart and Love Ssega, who is dropping a track with his former band, Clean Bandit, and the biggest name in Afrobeats, Davido, next month.
Kate will be playing music from a selection of East African artists, new and old, that she’s discovered on her travels, including EA Wave’s Jinku, Albert Ssempeke, MC Yallah, Faith Mussa, Sauti Sol and Nilotica Drum Ensemble, plus some exclusive new bits and pieces and a live mix from The Busy Twist.
