Wray & Nephew: Worldwide Carnival // 25-08-2018

On Saturday 25th August, Worldwide FM are partnering with Wray & Nephew to bring a flavour of Notting Hill Carnival to the UK and beyond. Together, we’re curating an amazing day of radio across four special shows between 11am and 7pm, tracing Carnival’s diasporic roots to its ever-evolving future, from the sound systems to the parades to the people who create this unique atmosphere.

– From 11am the iconic Channel One Sound System team up with dub legend Johnny Clarke for two hours. Selector Mikey Dread and MC Ras Kayleb present a special J’Ouvert set to open up our programming, in a year that marks their 35th year of Carnivals.

– From 1pm, broadcaster Leanne Wright focuses her Emerald Tablet show on the origins of Notting Hill Carnival, and welcomes Suma Sound’s Borge for a soca selection on decks.

– From 3pm, Thris Tian presents a ‘Contemporary Carnival’ Global Roots show, dedicated to parties across the world from New Orleans to Brazil.

– And from 5pm, Tash LC hosts a live session from tropical party crew Jus Now, aka Sam Interface and Lazer Beam, blending live percussion and DJ techniques to explosive effect.

Listen to the broadcast online on the Worldwide FM website, or follow our social channels to watch live-streams from across the day.
