Closer To The Sun with Quixosis: CAIFE Records

The CAIFE label was a pioneering Ecuadorian imprint from the 1960s which pressed records of what was known as “The Golden Era” of Ecuadorian Musica Nacional. It was the home of Ecuadorian legends such as Benitez y Valencia, and the Mendoza Suasti Sisters. The label disappeared in the late 60s, and the catalog was progressively buried under more than 3 tonnes of newspaper, until 2014, when the cache of master tapes was found by Daniel Lofredo Rota, aka Quixosis.

In this episode, quixosis tells us the mysterious story of the CAIFE label, the process of restoring its catalog, and how it went from the edges of oblivion to being revived and re-pressed on a full color compilation on Honest Jon’s Records.
