Future Nostalgia: Kaapse Kêrrie (Cape Curry) by Boeta Gee

South African music journalist, DJ, and researcher Atiyyah Khan (El Corazon) digs out gems, past and present. The show is an extension of the music collective she co-founded in Cape Town called Future Nostalgia, which spins records and has hosted listening sessions for the past eight years.

This month’s show features a guest mix by Boeta Gee (Graeme Arendse), one of the founding members of Future Nostalgia. Titled “Kaapse Kêrrie” (Cape Curry), it is an exploration into the hybrid creole culture that developed in Cape Town, through the centuries of meeting between indigenous peoples and voluntary and involuntary migrants from different parts of the world, as is reflected in its food, language and music.
