Haseeb Iqbal: Pharoah Sanders tribute

Radio host, DJ and spoken word poet Haseeb Iqbal is back for his weekly show.

Today, Haseeb is bringing you a tribute to Pharoah Sanders, one of the most impactful vessels of spiritual music who sadly passed away last week.

"The depth of his discography has persuaded me to spend these two hours zooming into his early years, exploring the sounds, stories and collaborations that honed his dynamic voice in the early 1960s.

From living homeless in New York after the racism he encountered in Arkansas, to the fascinating story of how he met Sun Ra and went on to work with him; the mentorship he received from John Coltrane before becoming a cornerstone of the legend’s band for the final years of his life… and much more.

I’ve gone very deep for this one! Very excited to drop some rare archive audio of Pharoah being interviewed as a youngster as well as his first ever recording too! I can’t wait for this one… expect some of the deeper, forgotten tunes today."
