MINYO CRUSADERS AND MAREWREW WITH OKI LIVE AT HELIOS IN JAPAN

Tune into a live concert with two of Japan’s most exciting folk-revivalist acts, Minyo Crusaders and Marewrew, here with OKI. Following a year in which gigs have been curtailed due to the pandemic, we had a chance to record this concert at Japan’s respected Nanto City Fukuno Creative Cultural Center Helios. The 10-piece band Minyo Crusaders have won-over global audiences with their unique take on Japanese folk music – where traditional Japanese folk songs (min’yō) meet cumbia, Afro-funk, Ethio-jazz, reggae and more. Marewrew are a group of female Ainu performers who sing upopo (ceremonial songs). Music plays an important role in Ainu culture, accompanying the religious and social ceremonies of everyday life. Here Marewrew are joined by the internationally acclaimed tonkori player Oki. Mari*, of Oto Nova Japan, closes the concert with a special mix. The show is supported by Mais Um, City of Nanto, J-LOD Live and Worldwide FM. Setlist: https://wrldwd.fm/japan3012
