A rich variety of new South Asian sounds

Sarathy Korwar is one of the most original and compelling voices in the UK jazz scene, As well as his own acclaimed albums on Ninja Tune and The Leaf Label, Sarathy has led the UPAJ Collective, a loose band of South Asian jazz and Indian classical musicians brought together through a love of collaboration and improvisation, and has collaborated with the likes of Shabaka Hutchings (The Comet Is Coming), clarinettist Arun Ghosh and producer Hieroglyphic Being, as well as the groups Flock, Penya and Ill Considered. He has toured with Kamasi Washington, Anoushka Shankar, Yussef Kamaal and Moses Boyd.

For this special Worldwide FM show, Sarathy takes us through a rich variety of new South Asian sounds from ragas and progressive music rooted in classical traditions to new electronic forms, hip hop and beyond: "All new tracks from people who, in my view, are shaping the future of South Asian music."
