Melting Part started with a basement jam in Taipei for dancers, musicians and graffiti artists. Since 2022 they’ve been hosting cross-disciplinary jams, representing a close-knit community of artists, audiences and venues. With artists and audiences alike, their mission is to amplify the spirit of independent research embedded in Taiwan’s rich cultural landscape.
Hosted by WADE DAO and curated by WHILES – Melting Part's co-founders and Studio Monkey Shoulder's Year 1 Taiwan community – share their favourite sounds from the vast multitude of musical pockets that shape Taiwan’s sonic geography.
They’re joined by NOD TOWN, an independent music platform based in Taipei, to chat about the hip-hop landscape in Taiwan.
This show is part of our Studio Monkey Shoulder curates programme to celebrate the launch of year 2. We’ve invited local curators and community organisers from the UK, Germany, Taiwan, India & Nigeria to host a show that celebrates the grassroots movements and underground sounds shaping their local scenes and pushing independent music culture forward.
