Leona Ojake is creative producer based in Berlin and resident host at community radio station Refuge Worldwide. To celebrate Studio Monkey Shoulder’s inaugural year in Germany, Leona spotlights the collectives, venues and creative spaces shaping the country's contemporary soundscape.
She's joined in the studio by Berlin-based DJ Ophélie, founder of Open Music Lab, to explore why accessible music spaces are key to a thriving scene. She’s also joined by vocalist Douniah, connected to Germany’s XJAZZ scene, with a guest mix and they reflect on Germany’s community-driven jazz culture.
This show is part of our Studio Monkey Shoulder curates programme to celebrate the launch of year 2. We’ve invited local curators and community organisers from the UK, Germany, Taiwan, India & Nigeria to host a show that celebrates the grassroots movements and underground sounds shaping their local scenes and pushing independent music culture forward.
