Pure’s Sound Market opened its doors in Asakusa, East Tokyo, in 2014. Initially, it operated as a bar where patrons would bring their own records to enjoy, but it quickly evolved into a gathering place for DJs and musicians. This led to the creation of a custom-built sound system designed to bring both dance music and live performances to life.
While Pure’s Sound Market never adhered to specific genres, the rich history of Asakusa began to influence its vision, and it now focuses on blending traditional and modern music, pushing the boundaries of musical evolution.
In recent years, they’ve become active in fostering cultural exchange within the local community, particularly through events like Bon Odori—a traditional Japanese summer dance festival that brings people together through folk music and dance. Pure’s Sound Market has been instrumental in enhancing the sonic experience of these events, helping to preserve and modernize Japan’s unique musical heritage.
The owner Yohei Ogawa selected tracks from bands & musicians that played in the venue in recent years.
