Brixton Radio is a non-profit independent radio station with the ethos of making music accessible for everyone. Passionate about keeping the grassroots culture alive, they offer over 250 radio shows a month to listeners from around the world and stream every genre from Jazz to House to Jungle. While providing a physical and online hub for emerging dj’s to promote their work, they also work with local movements, events companies and charities on projects that benefit the community. Their most recent work is with the charity Shelter on our initiative No Fixed Abode. Through this they host livestreams in unorthodox locations to promote the amount of displaced youth in our local area.
Representing them are Eilis and The Commonality. Eilis is a selector at heart, playing choice vinyls from her collection that take you on a journey all over the world. Her recent visit to Brazil has influenced her music taste and she is excited to broadcast some of these influences on the We Out Here Stage. The Commonality are a collective that represents the immense creative diversity of the current UK scene. With 3 Emcees, JOi, Jem Wax, and Yves Saint Moron, and Producer CARO, their unique sound is a result of their varying influences; from Jem’s jazz and Neo-soul background, Saint’s experience as a Grime MC, JOi’s alternate Hip Hop credentials and CARO’s electronic music obsession comes a sound that is greater than the sum of its parts. This show features live performances from them all from the Brixton Radio Studio.
