Jazz Revelation Japan: Shinya Fukumori

Drummer, composer, and producer Shinya Fukumori introduces some of the best jazz happening today in Japan and Asia, and anything related. (As an artist and a producer) Fukumori has long been emphasising the value of developing sound that is truly unique to Asian culture, perhaps best epitomised in a Japanese idiom “Ryusui Fufu,” which can be interpreted as “flowing water never goes stale.” Here at Jazz Revelation Japan, Fukumori will, not only share some of his works and of his close allies, but also unearth new sounds and talents that embrace such aesthetic. About Shinya Fukumori Shinya Fukumori was born on January 5th, 1984 in Osaka, Japan. Known for his melodic and rhythmic approach with a wide range of dynamics to drum-set playing. His unique and sensitive cymbal-work creates a very distinctive sound. In 2013, he relocates to Munich, Germany and releases his debut album “For 2 Akis” from ECM Records with his trio in 2018. In 2020, he launches his own music label ‘nagalu’ and releases its first full album “Another Story”. A year later in 2021, Fukumori creates another label ’S/N Alliance’ to create opportunities and expand possibilities for up-and-coming artists not just in Japan, but from all around the world. Fukumori visualizes himself working as a producer as well, building a bridge between where his identity lies and where his music’s universality flourishes.
