All their lives,
Eugene, Oregon brother duo Dana and Alden release their new album Speedo via Concord Jazz. Recorded in Lisbon over a rainy two-week stretch in late January with multi-instrumentalist and producer extraordinaire Charif Megarbane, Speedo is an embodiment of those Lisbon moments of imagination and feverish experimentation with novel sounds. The album includes previously-released singles “Childhood Crush” and “Don’t Run Away”, which Stereogum described as “disarmingly sweet jazz psychedelia”.
Throughout the album’s recording process the duo were soundtracking moments of their lives, chasing sounds that invoke moments of their lives, like the New Wave-inspired album focus track “Daydrinking in Springfield”.
The duo describe the song as “an ode to the dog days of summer in Oregon. All of our friends lived at home and we worked at the apple orchard which often became a party setting. We are singing to this past life and all the characters around the farm that shaped who we are and who will be our family forever.”
Speedo, their third album, is the culmination of whirlwind years, fueled by grassroots word-of-mouth and online fervor on TikTok.
