Africa Is a Country Radio, the audio accompaniment to the website of the same name, is a monthly deep dive into the music and cultural politics of the African continent and beyond. Hosted by Chief Boima, the show features a mix of music and interviews with musicians, historians, journalists, and more.
On this month's show we wrap up our focus on sports and music with a look at the cultural politics of the world's most popular sport, Football. We are doing so in anticipation of the upcoming Men's World Cup tournament taking place in Qatar this November and December. We've invited special guests Sean Jacobs (Africa Is a Country founder and editor) and Tony Karon (AJ Plus) who host the football podcast Eleven Named People, to select some songs and talk about the anti-colonial contours of the global game, and what they anticipate in the upcoming Cup.
