Asylum for The Soul: Christina Hazboun w/ Etaf

As part of Refugee week, this show will transport us to Palestine, Kuwait, Lebanon, and beyond, traversing geography to offer solace to the soul through the power of music and song.

Listening to music and moving from one space to another, from the chambers of the heart to the outer confines of society, their boundaries and blurred lines, “Asylum For The Soul” is a one-off 60-minute radio show where sonic agent Christina Hazboun hosts Kuwaiti singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist to speak of the matriarchal movements within their history, the music that moved them and the manoeuvring, motion, commotion and emotion of music and gender.

The show will take us to Palestine, Kuwait, Lebanon, and beyond geography, seeking asylum for the soul through music and song.

Etaf

Etaf is a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist based in London. Raised in Kuwait and with Palestinian and Lebanese roots, Etaf is proudly part of the Arabic diaspora and their music draws on their Arabic heritage. Known for creating a genre-defying sound, Etaf brings a bold authenticity and strength to their music.

Blending Arabic scales, singing and emotional melodies with elements of rap, harmonies and fast street beats, Etaf crafts deeply personal yet universally relatable stories, pushing the boundaries of musical conventions and refusing to be confined by traditional genre structures. Etaf has carved out a distinct musical identity that is daring and innovative. They seamlessly integrate rich, evocative Arabic melodies, vocals and rhythms into contemporary music, creating a soundscape that is both familiar and refreshingly new.
