Closer To The Sun with Quixosis

Tune in as Quixosis presents Closer To The Sun, his monthly show from Ecuador. On this month's show, the focus is Ecuadorian cumbia. Ecuadorian cumbia ranges from the folkloric to the psychedelic; and though it mostly goes under the radar, it has an important influence in the undercurrents of cumbia throughout the continent. The first electronic cumbias produced in Ecuador are dated around the 70s by Polibio Mayorga, and later, in the 2000s Ecuadorian Tecnocumbia records from the 80s and 90s became a treasure for mexican record diggers. They loved the speed and brightness of the cumbias, which sounded crisp and bassy when lowered to dramatically slow tempos in the cumbia rebajada scene.
