Lupini is a broadcaster, workshop facilitator (and trained ancient historian) based in Liverpool. She’s had her fingers in all sorts of radio-pies for the last 8 years; from giving talks about radio’s liminality at Unsound Festival, to being part of the team at community radio station, Melodic Distraction. She was introduced to a wider audience via her ‘DJ Mag Best Radio Show 2022’ NTS Soup To Nuts residency and now happily champions weirdo-music of all stripes on a cosy Sunday evening.
Join Lupini on the WOH Radio Stage for “Coming From An Unsexy Place – A Coventry Music Special”. Some places have instant sexy cultural status – even their very name confers cool, fantasy and exoticism. Think New York, Berlin or Tokyo. Lupini had the areat pleasure of being raised in a place so irrelevant that its irrelevance is of historical significance – the West Midlands.
Middle of this, middle of that. Since the 1670’s, there’s been a running joke that Coventry is such a a place of supposed drabness that being ‘sent to Coventry’ is an idiom we use to describe deliberately ostracising someone. Lupini’s out to mend the chip on her shoulder, to uncover the best hidden musical gems of the city of Coventry – beyond just The Specials – and look at her shifting notions of personal identity, memory, pride in the little things and what it means to grow up in an apparent ‘cultural wasteland’.
