Ishmael Ensemble Takeover: Bristol Dub History w/ Stryda

Stryda has been an integral part of the Bristol dub and roots scene since the 90s both with his renowned Sufferah’s Choice radio show and as one half of the production duo Dubkasm. Over the past 17 years Stryda has also been responsible for one of the UKs leading soundsystem events; Teachings in Dub. Here he selects some vinyl classics which are all Bristol related. Taking us through some vintage gems from the 80’s and ending right up-to-date with Dubkasm’s most recent release (a 7” on Tricky’s imprint False Idols).

Stryda has been a pivotal figure in Bristol's reggae and sound system scene for decades. He first made his mark on the city's music scene through his work as a DJ on Pirate Radio in the 1990s. His passion for reggae and sound system culture quickly grew, leading him to become one of the most respected figures in Bristol's underground music community.

Today, Stryda is best known as one-half of the influential dub duo Dubkasm. Alongside fellow producer Digistep, they have released numerous albums and singles that have gained international acclaim and helped put Bristol on the map as a hub for dub music.
