Kate Hutchinson is joined by one of the most exciting producers of recent years, Sofia Kourtesis, the globetrotting Peruvian who has released acclaimed EPs on Studio Barnhus and now on Ninja Tune imprint Technicolour. Her new release Fresis Magdelena is her most personal yet – a tribute to her parents and her Lima roots as she came to terms with losing her father, Nicolas, to leukemia. She beams in from Panama to talk to Kate about being a “travelling bedroom producer”, why she left Lima for Berlin, the activism in her family, overcoming loss, putting the romanticism and warmth into electronic music, and why she is hopeful for the future.
