Across the last three decades, Prefuse 73 ’s music has possessed so many interlocking genre webs that his back catalogue can sometimes feel like wading through the tangled wires of someone else’ Christmas tree lights. Yet Similarly, when they do finally unravel, a vibrant yet fuzzy beauty tends to outshine any of the previous anxieties (see new song “A Lord With No Jewels”). The depth of his musical influences (hip hop, jazz, musique concrete, early electronic, folk, no wave, etc) reflect an older sister who would expose him to “bugged out” noise and obscure sounds at a formative age, but it also reflects a jumbled-up childhood, too. It's almost a certainty you've heard other disruptive producers who were directly inspired by something Herren achieved on his early samplers; whether they’re aware of the source or not.
Prefuse brings a beatless journey mix for his contribution to the Lex Records takeover on Worldwide FM.
