Meridian Brothers Takeover: Feminidades Mutantes, Astrid Avila

Astrid Ávila Castro is a Colombian artist based in Bogotá, best known for her role as a musician and co-founder of Las Extintas. This duo, formed alongside Bibiana Rojas, combines acoustic and experimental sounds to create music that bridges traditional Latin American protest songs with contemporary styles. Their work is deeply reflective, addressing themes such as love, pain, resistance, and the passage of time. The project is notable for its poetic lyrics and innovative use of live beats and layered vocals.

Las Extintas emerged in the context of Colombia’s social and political transformations, incorporating influences from the National Strike and the Colombian Truth Commission’s Final Report. Their debut album, released in 2023, reflects these inspirations and is dedicated to the victims and survivors of Colombia’s armed conflict. Astrid contributes as a vocalist and guitarist, blending her talent with Bibiana’s electric instrumentation .
