Iván Medellín is a Colombian musician, accordionist, and producer best known for founding Conjunto Media Luna. Based in Bogotá, his work bridges traditional Colombian folk music, particularly the accordion-driven styles of the Montes de María region, with modern experimental sounds such as synthesizers, samplers, and drum machines. Medellín’s music draws on influences from vallenato, cumbia, and Afro-Caribbean rhythms while incorporating elements of rock, techno, and avant-garde aesthetics.
Conjunto Media Luna was established during the 2020 pandemic and quickly gained recognition for its innovative approach. Their debut album, “Noches de Media Luna”, released in 2023, showcases Medellín’s mastery in blending folkloric tradition with contemporary music.
He has also collaborated with the Meridian Brothers, notably contributing to their 2021 album “Paz en la Tierra”, which explores a modern reinterpretation of vallenato and Colombian paseo .
Medellín continues to perform internationally, participating in events like the “Cosmic Cumbia Jam” in London and the “Doombia Tour” in Europe, further solidifying his reputation as a visionary artist in the global cumbia and experimental music scene.
