Meridian Brothers Takeover: Mau Gatiyo's Accordian Spaceship

Mau Gatiyo is a Colombian musician and producer known for blending traditional vallenato with contemporary experimental sounds. Based in Bogotá, he draws inspiration from ancestral Colombian rhythms, particularly vallenato and cumbia, which he reinterprets with modern elements. His music often features unconventional arrangements and incorporates samples from vintage recordings, documentaries, and urban soundscapes.

One of Mau Gatiyo’s standout projects is Superpoderes, a conceptual album released in 2024. It reimagines vallenato with futuristic and experimental textures, inspired by themes such as telekinesis and time travel. Each track serves as a unique narrative, creating a “soundtrack” for imagined cinematic scenarios. He also collaborated with the group Los Años Maravillosos on the album 420, Reloj, which explores Tropicanibalismo, a concept rooted in dissecting and reinventing Colombian tropical music .
