With an upbringing filled with psych, folk, and experimental electronics on one side and samba and bossa nova on the other, Hannah O'Gorman loves to find the common threads in an eclectic mix of sounds. Quickly becoming a mainstay in the Manchester music scene, Hannah is also one half of DJ collective and event series, Nossa!, and co-founder of community radio station, STEAM Radio.
Ruffle around in today's show and you'll find champeta, forró, punk, Amazonian guitar and plenty of psychedelic weirdness from Oslo, Manchester, Kinshasa, Rio and more. Plus, Hannah will be joined by The Point. for a chat about their new album, Maldito Animal.
The Point. is an Austin based three-piece band consisting of Jack Montesinos, Nico Léophonte and Joe Roddy. Their latest offering, Maldito Animal, arrives as an expansive psych-rock blessing. The shape-shifting trio's fourth full-length release draws from a globe-trotting repertoire of West African, Italian, and Colombian influences. Compared to 2022 drop, Berto’s Banquet, lyrics are sparse on the jam-heavy release, but land with extra oomph when they do arrive – repeated refrains of "I love you" on ambulatory opener "Wede Harer Guzo" feel downright triumphant. Disguised by punchy basslines, "Mrs. Kind Eyes" lands as a swoonworthy love song from the dub rock heavens while closing dance-along "Cumbia de Medianoche” hurtles the trio into outer space, leaving us wondering what psychedelic planet they'll explore next. Special thanks to Iyun, Isaac and Eddy for the additional noises and to The Point. for being ultimately very laid back about being dragged into the Hannah O'Gorman Cyber Space™.
