Rafiq Bhatia is a guitarist, composer, improviser, producer and sound artist based in Brooklyn, New York. Born and raised in the American South, Bhatia is the first generation son of Muslim immigrants from India by way of Tanzania and Kenya.
For this show, Bhatia explores some of the inspirations for his LP, Environments, released on September 12 on ANTI- Records. Glacial, tectonic improvisations from the new record are juxtaposed against some of their sources—Ryuichi Sakamoto, Pharoah Sanders, Caetano Veloso, Tim Hecker, and Bill Frisell. Music of the air, the middle of the forest, the core of the earth, the rising sun.
