Soundscapes of Armenian Gatherings: Yavrents

An exploration of Armenia's musical heritage

Yavrents is a music selector from Armenia, who has a strong emotional connection with the vibrant atmosphere of Armenian family gatherings.

These aren't just simple get-togethers; they are fun celebrations where the smell of home-cooked food mixes with the grooves of Armenian music, and suddenly everyone is dancing. These songs bring back memories of her grandma's kitchen, with the radio on the wall, the smell of baking bread, and her mother humming Tatevik Hovhannisyan. All this led to Estrada Radio, a project that aims to rediscover and popularise Armenian artists who performed and promoted the Armenian music scene from a different perspective and were not documented by mass media.

In her set, Yavi takes listeners on a journey through Armenian grooves, showcasing the iconic artists who provided the soundtrack to those cherished family celebrations. It's an exploration of Armenia's musical heritage, revealing a chapter often overlooked.
