Valentine Comar continues her “Breakfast with…” segment, where artists join her to share the sounds they love and introduce their newest releases.
This week, she welcomes makaan, a DJ/producer duo originally from Punjab, now based in Delhi (previously Vancouver, BC), consisting of Lovin Kiran and Rhythm Gogia.
Brought together by a shared passion for electronic music, the duo formed makaan as a space to explore and blend genres such as House, Garage, Jungle, Drum & Bass, Afro and beyond; all infused with authentic South Asian sounds. Their music carries a distinct touch of India, representing their roots and identity.
Known for their high-energy performances, makaan’s DJ sets combine their own productions with carefully curated selections. What sets them apart is that their live acts are built largely around their original music, offering audiences a truly unique experience. They have already performed at major festivals and clubs across India and Canada, including 5X Fest, FVDED in the Park, and many more.
Their music has gained global recognition, with features on platforms such as Boiler Room, Ultra Japan, Brooklyn Mirage, BBC Radio, Rinse FM, Diplo’s Revolution Channel 53 on SiriusXM, On The Radar, and multiple others.
The journey of makaan began with the two producing beats at home, constantly pushing each other to experiment and innovate. This creative exchange sharpened their production skills and helped them shape a distinctive sound. With diverse musical backgrounds and a united vision, they aim to create music that celebrates electronic culture while staying deeply connected to their South Asian heritage.
With several tracks released and over a million streams across platforms, including music under labels like Indo Warehouse and Desi Trill, makaan is only just getting started. With plenty of new music on the horizon, the duo is set to move dancefloors around the world.
Reflecting on their selection for the show, the duo share: “We put together a mix of tracks we play out, bits we listen to at home, and some unreleased ones we’re buzzing to share with everyone.”
